The evil eye has been used in various cultures dating back to ancient times as a symbol of protection. Despite it's use in fashion, many cultures still consider wearing or carrying the evil eye symbol on them as a part of everyday life. What you see in this necklace is not the traditional " evil eye " symbol, but here at Fredrick Prince we like to load up on gemstones and symbols that ward of negativity and malice at all costs, whether we're aware of it or not.

Evil Eye History
The evil eye is a curse or legend believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, usually given to a person when they are unaware. Many cultures believe that receiving the evil eye will cause misfortune or injury. Belief in the curse dates back at least 5,000 years to the Sumerians of the Euphrates Valley, though historians have found cave drawings up to 10,000 years old in Spain and amulets from 3,300 BC Syria that they believe were used to ward off the Evil Eye. Like all traditions, belief in the Evil Eye and what it entails differs from region to region, but its existence in cultures across oceans, religions, and millennia is remarkable. Today, belief in the curse exists in nearly every content, and Evil Eye protection charms can be found everywhere from street vendors in Greece to department stores like Bloomingdales (which has an entire Evil Eye jewelry collection.)
